Our Story
A New Chapter
If you've been following Jessie's Story for a while, you've probably noticed things have been looking a little different around here.
For years, this little corner of the internet has been about celebrating the dogs who change our lives and raising awareness for special needs rescue. That will always be at the heart of Jessie's Story.
The only thing that's changing is the medium. I've found a new way to tell those stories.
Always in a hurry.
Usually for no reason.
She finally learned
what safe felt like.
No one is ever left
wondering how she feels.
He reminds us
how little it takes to be happy.
The best place
is one inch closer.
Every day
was play day.
The crown only confirmed
what she already knew.
She learned there was
room for one more family.
One head tilt can
ask a thousand questions.
She never misses a
chance to be in charge.
He hadn't quite
grown into his ears.
Every adventure has
her name all over it.
Tiny body.
Enormous opinions
Suns out
tongue out.
Tiny velvet hippos.
Disguised as puppies.
She has main
character energy.
She accepted the situation.
Approval was another matter.
She endures baths
for the towel rubs.
Working from home
With a lot of supervision.
The little things
were never really little.
Comfort
is an art form.
She always looked at you
Like she already knew the answer.
The Inspiration
Why Clay?
It started as something I wanted to try.
Then it became something I kept coming back to.
The more I learned, the more I realized there was always another technique to explore.
Another idea to test.
Another tool I somehow needed.
Before long, pottery tools had taken over the house, and I realized it was time for a home studio.
Every sculpture begins as a lump of clay and an idea.
From there, it's a process of slowing down, paying attention, and making hundreds of tiny decisions. A slight tilt of the head. An oversized ear. The smallest change in an expression. Tiny details that slowly become someone.
Maybe I love clay because it refuses to be rushed.
Every piece takes time.
Time to shape.
Time to dry.
Time to fire.
Time to glaze.
Sometimes, time to begin again.
One of my favorite moments is when a sculpture stops feeling like clay and quietly becomes its own character.
